| LOCATION: | The location of Rocco Forte’s Brown’s Hotel, on a peaceful 18th century street in the heart of Mayfair, is unrivalled. | HISTORY: | In 1837, James Brown - Lord Byron’s butler and his wife - Lady Byron’s maid, opened the first ever hotel in London. That was the beginning of the present Brown’s Hotel, which has retained for over 170 years the special atmosphere imparted to it by its founders: a place guaranteed to ensure comfort, privacy and understated service. Brown’s Hotel has the most amazing history. Alexander Graham Bell made the first ever telephone call from the hotel, both Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt were regular guests and stayed here on their honeymoons and it is from here that Rudyard Kipling penned ‘The Jungle Book’ & Agatha Christie wrote ‘At Bertram’s Hotel’. |
| RENOVATION: | Following a £24-million renovation, which was completed in December 2005, the legendary Brown’s Hotel now boasts 117 luxurious rooms and suites, outstanding restaurants, a buzzing bar and relaxing spa. |
| DESIGN: | Olga Polizzi, Rocco Forte’s Director of Design |
| INTERIOR: | A variety of soft colour schemes reflect a refined English charm that retains the sophistication for which the hotel is known. |
| ACCOMMODATION: | 117 guestrooms and suites, including 29 suites, of which two are Royal and two are Presidential Suites. |
| RESTAURANTS: | Brown’s Hotel was the first hotel in London to have a restaurant (formerly guests had dined in the privacy of their own suites), so it too has real history.
The Albemarle (formerly The Grill) is the newly re-launched restaurant at Brown's Hotel and specialises in the finest quality British cooking. Executive Chef, Lee Streeton and Director of Food, Mark Hix, have created an outstanding menu featuring great British classics alongside many lighter fish and shellfish dishes - all using carefully sourced seasonal ingredients. Main courses include Roasted Scallops with Hedgerow Garlic and Dover Sole as well as unusual and old-fashioned cuts of meat on the bone such as Galloway Sirloin and Aberdeenshire Fillet which have a remarkable depth of flavour and succulence. At lunch, the carving trolley also serves traditional roasts including Brymore Veal, Hay-Baked Leg of Lamb and Loomswood Farm Duck with Blood Orange Sauce. The Albemarle seats 80 people. The English Tea Room - serves one of the most famous afternoon teas in London and a selection of lighter meals. Brown’s award-winning Traditional Afternoon Tea consists of a choice of 17 teas, including Brown’s own blend, along with succulent finger sandwiches, an assortment of delicate pastries, fruit and plain scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserve, as well as a choice of freshly baked cakes from the trolley. Traditional Afternoon Tea from £35.00 per person Rosé Champagne Afternoon Tea from £48.00 per person. Open daily from 7am to 11pm The English Tea Room and Library seat 70 people. |
| BAR: | The Donovan Bar – pays homage to the celebrated British photographer Terence Donovan and is lined with over 50 of his iconic black and white prints. This fashionable bar is also decorated with contemporary furnishings, wooden floors, black leather seating and dark country check banquettes. British leather designer Bill Amberg designed the extended bar, for which the original St George’s Hotel stained glass window provides the perfect backdrop. Live Jazz is performed Monday to Saturday from 9pm to midnight.
Open to residents and non-residents between 11am and 1am Monday to Saturday and 12 noon to midnight on Sunday. The Donovan Bar seats 60 people. |
